Conservatives weren’t exactly in love with Michelle Obama. That’s probably the understatement of the century. Most rational people respect the position of First Lady and it’s obviously never good to slam the wife of the president for silly reasons. However, as Hillary Clinton can attest to, the First Lady is very much fair game when it comes to political moves. It’s one thing if you want to be a good role model for the country. It’s quite another to run around bankrupting school districts by forcing them to sell food that kids don’t want while lecturing people about what they eat.
That’s going to rub people the wrong way.
On the flipside, conservatives appear to be pretty impressed by Melania Trump.
On Monday, Melania accompanied Trump to Cincinnati for a speech.
From Fox 8:
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump are in Ohio, where the president pointed to the benefits of the tax law and the first lady will talk about the administration’s response to the opioid epidemic.
It’s a rare joint domestic policy trip for the first couple. The president pointed to the benefits of the new tax law for small businesses. Trump was touring Sheffer Corporation, a manufacturer in Blue Ash, Ohio, that recently gave its 126 workers bonuses of $1,000 apiece because of the tax law.Jeff Norris, the company’s chief executive, referenced House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi’s claim that the tax-related bonuses are “crumbs.”
While Trump was talking taxes, Melania made a move that should make every American proud. She showed up at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and made some sick children very happy.
From Washington Examiner:
First lady Melania Trump brought Valentines Day cards to children at an Ohio hospital during a visit to learn more about the opioid epidemic.
Trump spent time playing with children at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center on Monday, bringing valentines and coloring books to each of them, the White House said.
From The Daily Caller:
During her visit, Melania participated in a briefing on the dangers and negative health effects that opioids have on newborns.
After the briefing, Mrs. Trump visited with some of the young patients in an activity room where she handed out valentines and coloring books to each of them.
“Thank you Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for a very warm and informative visit. I am so grateful for your continued research on combatting opioid abuse and for all you are doing for your patients,” the first lady said after her visit. “Children will always be my top priority, and I appreciated the opportunity to visit with the young patients today and witness firsthand their strength and spirit.”
The children seemed to really enjoy it.
Melania didn’t have to do that. Heck, she didn’t even have to come on the trip. She could have stayed at home at the White House and watched television on the couch all day. She didn’t. Clearly, Melania truly cares about using her position to do as much good as possible.
